WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Creative Chemistry:  The Art of Making Paint
Sherwin-Williams

Gecko Green, Vivacious Pink and Dynamic Blue. Ever wonder how science presents itself in paint? Come take an exciting journey with the women of Sherwin-Williams and learn about the many different facets of paint making and coatings. You'll learn how coalescence comes into play when creating coatings and we'll demonstrate this phenomenon by looking at current trendy coatings for nails. We'll also explore the science of color.  Ask how. Ask Now.  Ask Sherwin-Williams!

Analytical Acrobatics: The Urban Water Cycle and Determining Water Quality
Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District

Discuss the urban water cycle and its importance to the environment, and learn about basic tests used to determine water quality. Participate in hands-on activities that emphasize pH, density and chemical reactions. Find out about careers that might be right for you!

Veterinary Medicine: It's More than Just Loving Animals!
Geauga Humane Society

Come learn all about the world of Veterinary Medicine. In this hands-on workshop, scholars will have the opportunity to view real X-rays, look at samples under a microscope, learn how to properly examine animals and discuss the different disciplines of veterinary medicine that you may have never thought of before!

Bioinformatics: DNA Detective
Cleveland Clinic

Discover activities and experiments designed to build a strong foundation in biology! Through model-making, microscope observations, and laboratories – including DNA extraction and genetic engineering – build an understanding of cell biology, microbiology, genetics and biotechnology.

Communicating and Teaching Science
Great Lakes Science Center

Science educators must know more than science facts! Explore the fun and creative side of science while developing your own demonstration style. Design a science education program and learn ways to communicate science to students and the public using comedy, spare materials and your own imagination.
